Sugartape – Summerdaze (Todd Tobias Remix) (2004)

EDMclassics | 9 February, 2021

Todd Tobias is a producer at heart. Starting off in 2001 with some good old Hard House, his first track “Nice One Bruvva” was signed to Freezing Point Records, and picked up by Fergie for the Ministry Of Sound Hard NRG compilation.

His Hard House days continued with “Storming” (another release on Freezing Point, given the remix treatment by Paul Glazby), and two releases on Feersum.

In 2003, DJ Magazine named Todd “One to watch in 2003”, and he didn’t disappoint – he had a flurry of Hard Trance records out, with two releases on Impact (“I Will Return”, then later following it up with “Nothing”/“We Cool”), a release on Recover (“Brave New World”), and another on Peroxide (“Blow My Mind” – with Danny Gilligan).

Also in 2003, Todd had further Hard House releases; “Headspace” on Retek (given major club play), and “Desert Storm” with Ed Real on Nukleuz Blue (on the Hard House Anthems 4 album sampler).

In 2004, Todd’s trancier sound returned, with the release of Under One Nukleuz Green to a great reception, and plays by many of the leading trance DJs.

In late summer 2004, Todd headed for a more electro trance sound, and enjoyed huge success with his track “Summerdaze” (which included his own vocals, and done under his Sugartape moniker). Plays came from Armin Van Buuren & Marco V at Dance Valley, and a number of plays on Radio 1 – once by Dave Pearce on Dance Anthems, and three plays from Judge Jules, who opened his Radio 1 set live at Creamfields with it.
